PVCu - greener than you think!
PVCu is a recyclable building material. A recent study carried out by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) showed that a PVCu window can be recycled up to seven times without any degradation to the properties of the product. Given that a PVCu window has an expected lifetime of 35 years, the same materials could well be in use 200 years after the window was initially constructed.
PVCu commercial windows are now rated A+ building materials in the most recent Green Guide to Specification - the same as pre treated softwood and durable hardwood windows.
All PVCu off-cuts produced during the manufacturing process are collected by our recycling partner to be ground down and then fed back into the supply chain where the material is used to create brand new PVCu window and door profiles.
Some recent examples of our recycling work:
- We removed and recycled some 20,000 window frames from Valleys to Coast Housing Association in South Wales. These frames were then shipped to a local waste recycling company who dismantled the old window frames and recycled the segregated parts
- Over 1,000 first generation PVCu windows have been removed, recycled and replaced with new WHS Halo System10 Tilt and Turn windows at two tower blocks in Oldham
